I have tested my jeans and have one pair of Calvin Klein jeans which test negative for nickel
on the buttons and rivets (and I know I don’t have a reaction to them either). The rivets are
a dull (very dull) silver color – not shiny and not copper or bronze color.
You could always sneak a nickel test kit into the dressing room to check a new pair of jeans out…!
At this point, this may be the most reliable way until manufacturers start labelling them
for us.
If it comes to it, and you have the equipment and skills, you can fix a pair of your current
jeans with nickel-free buttons and rivets.
I will continue to investigate nickel-free jeans and post the results here – if you find a
manufacturer qualifying their jeans as nickel-free, please let me know.
Update 2/23/2011: Levi Straus’ Restricted Substances List 2010 restricts (does not ban) nickel from parts supplied to them.
Please let us know where I can purchase nickle free jeans. Have been wearing pajamas and shorts for about 5 years now. Any time I try a jean my skin breaks out either from the touch of the button or prolong exposer to the zipper. plase help!!!
I saw someone post that Levi jeans are nickel free.
Levi jeans! That is all I can wear but they are nickel free.
Thank you. I’m not sure but think Calvin Klein jeans are giving me a reaction to the rivet. I get a bump and big hive that goes down with cordisone cream but is annoying. I have Levi’s and Lee jeans. Need to test both.
Men’s Jeans??
Just a heads up about Calvin Klein jeans. I have two of the same pair of Calvin Klein jeans, just in two different sizes. One is totally fine, and the other causes me to break out on my stomach. I’m not sure why that would happen, but it makes me feel like I can’t go by brand when trying to determine what’s safe :-/ Looks like smuggling a nickel test into the dressing room is the best option lol. Also keeping a stock of nickel-free buttons for jeans that test positive but that I want anyway.
YAY! PAIGE jeans are nickel free! My husband bought me a pair from Nordstrom. From the company: All our trim is Nickle/Lead free. It is a requirement of Paige to purchase Nickle / Lead free trim items for production.
Our Son is allergies to nickel in jeans. We have tried many brands, but he still gets a rash..? Even the zippers will break him out.
Can someone suggest a brand or a suggestion on what we can do so that he can wear jeans like the rest of his young men his age, which by the way is 22 years old. This recently is bothering him because people can be mean !!!
Thank you
has anyone purchased Nickle free jeans?
I have been taping the inside of the pant’s rivets with duct tape. On some it stays on thru multipple washer/dryer cycles, but the ones I’m wearing now aren’t doing that well. Is it hard to replace rivets without mangling the jeans?
