Nickel Allergy (dealing with daily dirt)

Daily dirt, grime and grubbiness can transfer nickel to your hands. It would seem like a ridiculously small amount would be transferred but for highly sensitive individuals such as us, even this can be a severe irritant. In addition before getting a nickel allergy under control, with dry and broken skin, any dirt and mess can cause further irritation and reduce the chances of healing.

What can you do? Use gloves. But is this practical? After many experiements, I came to the conclusion I needed two types of gloves. I now always keep a box of lightweight foodservice gloves next to each of my daily dirty jobs. Loading the dishwasher - a box of gloves in the cupboard above the dishwasher. It only takes a few seconds to put them on and protects my hands from the caustic dishwasher liquid and all the mess associated with loading the dirty dishes. It's simple enough and becomes second nature after a few weeks AND it means the mess doesn't irritate my hands and I don't dry out my hands yet again by washing them afterward.

Keep a box of lightweight gloves next to each of your dirty jobs without breaking the bank. Buy them in multiples, have a box by each job and buy enough so that you don't run out. Don't keep making your hands worse with nothing more than daily chores.
